Tieshou ('metallic beast') is a robotic marionette that merges aspects of mechanical toys with traditional puppetry. The front legs and tail of Tieshou are controlled by strings while the jaws and back legs are controlled by electromagnets. Tieshou displays movements that are fluid and life-like yet robotic and mechanical. His design was improvised and constructed from junk electronic components.
